The Engineering Program allows students to prepare for university transfer while developing marketable engineering technical skills. The goal of the Engineering Program is to deliver an advanced engineering educational experience that is, in every way, equivalent to the first two years within a formal university environment.  The program provides an outstanding opportunity for students seeking to minimize their time to completion and dramatically decrease the cost of their undergraduate education. The Engineering Program currently offers over ten fully transferable engineering courses which are coordinated to all major engineering disciplines. Developed in conjunction with our university partner, UC Irvine, the Engineering Program at IVC is the most effective way to reach your undergraduate engineering goals and ensure your long term success. 

Program Length

  • The average time to completion for our Engineering AS Degrees is approximately 4 semesters, or two years.
  • The average time to completion for our Certificate of Proficiency in Pre-Engineering is approximately 3 semesters, or 18 months.

Transfer Options

The Engineering Program currently offers over ten core engineering courses which integrate almost all major engineering disciplines. The Engineering Program has been developed with the direct input of our primary university partner, UC Irvine in order to provide all required prerequisites and engineering courses for mechanical, electrical, computer, civil, chemical, materials science, and biomedical engineering transfer students.  Every course within the Engineering Program maintains an active articulation agreement with multiple university partners, including UC Irvine, UC Riverside, CalPoly Pomona, and Cal State Fullerton.  By completing the AS Degree, students are able to transfer with full junior status to the university of their choice and dramatically decrease the time to degree completion compared to traditional two year college transfer programs. 

Program Specific Support

Students enrolled in the Engineering Program enjoy a wide array of instructional services and benefits.  All classes are currently offered within the dedicated IDEA learning facility at the ATEP campus. This site provides students with access to three advanced computer labs, a full machine shop, a wide array of highly advanced pieces of equipment, counseling office, and dedicated faculty and staff members who specialize in STEM based education.  Additionally, the college has one of the first dedicated transfer agreements in California through the IVC-UCI Engineering Academy and several NSF Scholarships for low income students.
